Menstruators in Kenya face various challenges, such as limited access to safe and affordable MHM products, the ability to change MHM materials and access safe and convenient disposal facilities, and limited access to basic facts and information on female reproductive health and menstrual hygiene.
On 28 May 2020, the Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Health launched the 2019-2030 Menstrual Hygiene Policy and Strategy. This policy aims at mainstreaming MHM and strengthening partnership and coordination.
In commemoration of Menstrual Hygiene Day 2020, the East Africa Institute, in collaboration with the Garden of Hope Foundation, convened a virtual gathering of four expert panelists, joined online by 45 participants on 27 May 2020, to expound on this MHM conversation.
The objective of this policy brief is to highlight challenges faced by various menstrual health and hygiene stakeholders and provide policy recommendations as discussed during the forum.
