Finding Hope, Purpose and a New Beginning

Every young person carries a story. Some chapters are difficult, and during the hardest moments, it can be difficult to imagine that a brighter future is possible. Adrian’s journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, encouragement, and someone willing to listen, young people can begin to rediscover hope, purpose, and a sense of direction.

Before joining St. Mary’s School, Adrian was going through a deeply challenging period in his life. At his previous school, he faced serious emotional and mental-health struggles that left him finding it difficult to cope and stay safe and tried to commit suicide. His challenges became increasingly difficult to manage, eventually leading to him leaving the school.

Joining St. Mary’s marked the beginning of a new chapter. It was there that Adrian encountered a different environment and became connected to Garden of Hope Foundation’s mentorship program. For the first time in a while, he found a space where conversations were not only about academics, but also about life, personal growth, relationships, decision-making, self-awareness, and the future he wanted for himself.

Through the mentorship sessions, Adrian was given an opportunity to reflect on his experiences and begin seeing his life from a different perspective. The conversations, guidance, and relationships he encountered helped him understand that difficult experiences from his past did not have to determine the rest of his life. Gradually, he began to develop a stronger sense of purpose and renewed confidence in what his future could hold.

At the heart of Adrian’s experience is a simple but powerful lesson: sometimes, being heard can be the beginning of hope. Young people can carry challenges that are not always visible to those around them. They need spaces where they can speak openly, be listened to without judgment, receive guidance, and know that their wellbeing matters.

For Adrian, mentorship became more than a program. It became a space to connect, learn, reflect, and imagine a different future. More importantly, his experience transformed the way he viewed his own ability to make a difference.
Today, Adrian wants to become a mentor.

Having experienced the value of encouragement, guidance, and positive relationships, he hopes to be there for other young people who may be navigating difficult seasons in their lives. He wants to listen, encourage, and help them recognize that their current circumstances do not have to define who they become.

Adrian’s journey reflects one of the most meaningful possibilities of mentorship. when young people are given hope and the right support, they can grow into sources of hope for others. His story is not defined by the challenges he faced, but by the new purpose he is discovering and his desire to use his experience to help others find their own path forward.
